Murano Glass Freehand Trefoil Sommerso Bowl

Big, luscious free-formed mid-century art glass. Beautiful art glass like this tri-cornered sommerso bowl adorned the homes of the elegant mod in the 1950’s to 1960’s. Lighter colored glass glows bright yellow under blacklight indicating manganese in the recipe. Italian maker’s were among the last to use it, ending in the late 1950’s.

In excellent condition with some expected bottom-wear on the polished flat base and a few light scratches. There is no maker’s mark. In a very pleasing amber and blue sommerso. Hand-formed glass is peppered with tiny air bubbles and one inclusion, this is common on vintage blown glass.

Big and heavy. Weighs 3 lbs. Measures 10.5″ x 10″ x 8″. Stand 3.25″ at tallest. Versatile display bowl goes great on the coffee table, can be used as a candleholder, flower float or catch-all.

Murano Art Glass Tutti Frutti Clam Bowl

Vintage retro modern Murano art glass clam shell bowl. Made at Vetreria Fratelli Toso in the 1950’s, probably by Vittorio Ferro. Credit for the “Tutti Frutti” pattern is given to Dino Martens in the 1940s of AV.E.M. Stunning example of early mid century modernist Italian art glass. “Tutti Frutti” means “All Fruits” in Italian.

Blown emerald green glass layered with silver leaf aventurine, layered again with colorful cannes and entirely encased in cristallo (clear). In original condition with no chips or cracks. A maker’s miss of a small burst air bubble on the surface can be seen. This deep clam shell form is scarce.

Label remnant remains on the base but has no writing, just the shape. At one time the label read “Genuine Murano Glass Ferro Italarts Made in Italy”. New owner should not remove the remnant, the shape of the label is a clue to its identity and age.

This beautiful deep bowl was made for multi-purposes. Could be used as a catch-all, candleholder (remove metal from candle before using on old glass), potion bowl, ashtray and even food service.

Measures 5″ round, 2.5″ deep. Hand blown. Polished base. Heat finished rims. Weighs 1 lb.

Murano Art Glass Snail Figurine by Nason

A very appealing slimy snail. Hand formed art glass snail in shades of brown. The very dark brown resedes to light brown, then lightest brown (almost clear). Well-made. All formed from a single gather of glass. This snail was made in Murano Italy by V. Nason & Company. The Nason family has contributed many artists to Italian art glass history. The label that is with another snail like this reads ‘V. Nason C. Made in Murano’. We have seen identical snails with different colors with a yellow oval label which read “Made in Murano”, and another was found with a round red label that reads “Made in Murano Italy”. The V. Nason label dates to after 1989. Please note: The Murano snail offered here does not have a sticker.

Big snail weighs just under 1 lb. Measures 4″ long and 3.5″ tall. Hand-made with combined clear and chestnut brown colored glass. Polished flat base. White spots in the images are due to camera reflection.

Murano Art Glass Frit and Aventurine Hand Formed Bowl

Fantastic vintage Italian Murano glass bowl by famous Italian maker Fratelli Toso. Luscious decor includes bullicante (controlled bubbles), aventurina (gold flecks), casing (two layers of thick glass) and pink and white murrine (colored inclusions). Outer casing is clear, inner casing is decorated. Hand-formed. Polished pontil mark.

Remains of Fratelli Toso label. Can see outlines of “Murano Glass, Made in Italy”. Original label color worn off, only silver foil remains.

Measures 8.75″ long, 6.25″ and 2.75″ tall. Weighs 2.5 lbs. In excellent condition. Circa 1950’s.

Murano Art Glass Courting Geese Set

Frisky Fratelli Toso cased glass geese couple. Sold as a pair. Both in excellent condition. Both still retain worn blue and silver “Murano Glass Made in Italy” stickers. This sticker is attributed to Fratelli Toso, a famous mid-century glass artist. Hand-made. Each shaped a little different from the other. Inner casing is orange, outer casing clear. Wings, bill and base in solid clear. Measure 8″ long, 4″ at tallest, 3.5″ wing span. Both appear to be ready to fly, or perhaps they are just showing off to each other. Beautiful vintage 1950’s popular Italian art glass.

Murano Art Glass Black Amethyst Galaxy Bowl

Unusual shaped square bowl with a deep round well in the center. Big, heavy and beautiful. Looks like a ‘black hole’ gobbling up a galaxy. The murrine ‘galaxies’ are surrounded by large flake silver aventurine that look like distant stars.

In perfect condition with heavy bottom-wear (from years of surface contact on the seat). Loaded with big silver aventurine flakes and colorful murrina. The black glass is actually very dark amethyst. It appears dark black normally, but when held up to the light you can see the glints of purple. Using very dark red or purple glass was the method of creating black glass in the past. The white glare marks encircling the bowl are light reflections.

Hand-made by an Italian master of the craft. This type of 1940’s – 1950’s art glass is usually credited to Arte Vetraria Muranese (A.Ve.M.) and referred to as ‘Tutti Frutti’. A great artist named Galliano Ferro who worked with A.Ve.M. formed his own glass company in 1955. This beautiful bowl looks like his work. The bowl was not marked by the maker. Measures 7½” at widest and stands 2″ tall. Weighs 2½” lbs.

Morgantown Westchester Rose Rare 9 oz Goblet Pair

Pair of rare elegant glass Tiburon 9oz goblets with etched roses. Made by elegant Morgantown Glass (West Virginia, US) in the 1920’s/1930’s. The stem is #7634 Tiburon with melon node. Etched decor is called Westchester Rose (very rare).

The bowl is in pink glass, and the stem is crystal. The crystal recipe contains manganese, which makes the stem light up bright yellow under blacklight. The stems would turn purple if left in bright light. The stems are still crystal clear.

Both are in execellent condition. Large wine or water goblets. Measure 7.75″ tall with a 3.5 wide bowl. Hand blown in three parts, then applied. The pink etched bowls have 11 optic panels.

Moon and Star Uranium Glass Decanter with Label

Moon and Star glass pattern mystery. This famous pattern dates back to the late 1800’s. First called ‘Palace’ by Early American glassmakers and now known as ‘Moon and Star’. The prolific pattern, with some design adjustments along the way, was in production until the late 1980’s.

This bottle adds yet another dimension to Moon and Star glass. It has a label which reads: ‘Decorative Glass, Ca…..(missing area), Clean by Hand, Made in Spain’. It’s the ‘Made in Spain’ that throws the mystery in. Moon and Star pattern glass is always attributed to an American glass maker, namely ‘L.E. Smith’. Other American makers are known to have produced this pattern too. The oddity is that this bottle’s label clearly states it was made in Spain as decorative glass. It is not a wine bottle, it has never held liquid of any kind. The cork is clean.

In addition, this foreign beauty was made with a 4-part mold (which is considered to be a sign of old age) and contains a minute amount of Uranium which causes the glass to ‘light up’ under black-light. This type of glass dates back to WWI (Uranium replaced lead which was confiscated by the military for the war effort). Often called ‘Vaseline Glass’, which is just a nickname. This type of glass was made until the 1950’s, although in much lesser quantities after the wars. ‘Vaseline’ glass is being reproduced today, but the reproductions are apparent with massive over-glow and thick, crude mold lines.

In excellent condition. Appears to have been unused. Thick and even band of bottom-wear indicates old age, as does the 4-part mold and the uranium glass recipe. In addition, ‘straw marks’ are present on the exterior which is a sign of old fashioned cooling methods. With these clues we can normally designate it as Depression Glass or older. The one feature that does not match Depression age or older is the fact that the cork is in excellent condition. Old corks harden and shrink when subjected to air and we would expect to find a hardened cork on Depression or older glass. Perhaps the bottle was never opened. Or perhaps it is a clever reproduction of vintage age (1960s-1970s). I lean toward Depression era or earlier.

It’s in pristine condition. Stands 12.5″ tall and thick glass weighs 2.5 lbs. The pattern is deeply molded, as if from a fresh mold, and made with thick walled glass.

Moon and Star Tangerine Dream Art Glass Jar

Made by LE Smith, circa 1930’s/1940’s. Quarter gallon Moon and Star canister jar in dark tangerine.

The jar and lid are in perfect condition. Glass is clean and brilliant – no liquid stains. Thick mold blown glass with pontil scar on seat (left by the makers tool). Made with a 4-part mold, lids were 2-part. Has a solid band of bottom-wear which is found on the seats of very old glass caused by years of shelf-wear. SOLID bands are considered an asset as they prove old age and are not considered damage.

Measures 7″ tall and weighs 2½ lbs. Beautiful in a bright spot in the kitchen. Handy storage for the bar. Handy for storage of all kinds.

Moon and Star Amber Glass Table Set

Set of depression glass candlestick holders and covered dish in golden amber. All in excellent condition. Probably made by L.E. Smith. Many glass makers, including Fenton, made glass with the moon and star pattern. The pattern was styled after an early 19th century pattern called “Palace”.
These were made with a 4-part mold. The mold lines are slightly visible, polished smooth. Circa 1930 to 1970.

Candlestick holders Measure 4.5″ tall on a 4″ wide base. The large covered dish measures7″ wide, 5″ tall. Heavy glass.

Monk Shaped Blown Hyacinth-Bulb Vase

Tall elegant bulb rooting vase of yesteryear. Lovely old hyacinth vase was handblown with optic panels in a slight twist. The tall size and low bulb bowl is known as the “Monk” shape. Origin unknown, possible Italian glass, but could be English or American. Bulb vases used to force a bulb, which sits in the top portion. The roots grow into the water below and the flower would grow upward from the bulb.

This old style was used in the 19th century to the early 20th century. It has a very low bowl, probably from the 19th century. In excellent condition with light bottom-wear. Glass is clear and clean, has been well-cared for. This vase has no liquid stains. It is important to empty the water every three days and completely dry the interior of the vase before it is refilled with fresh water. Standing water causes cloudiness in old glass. Measures just under 8″ tall, 2.75″ wide mouth, 1 3/8″ wide neck, 3.25″ wide base.

Modernist Art Illusion Glass Small Bowl

Vintage glass bullseye bowl tricks the eye. You can see a dark orange/red colored circle on the base and the same color encircling the rim. In reality, the color on the rim is not there. The only color on the bowl is in the circle at the center of the base. It must be the thickness and exact form of the glass that produces the illusion. It is probably optical quality glass. The rim color as seen in the image above is normally visible. Tilting the bowl will cause the rim color to disappear.

Hand-blown with an inverted point pontil mark on the polished flat base. The glass recipe contains Manganese, a mineral used during the world wars and depression to replace lead. It was used once again in the 1950’s by elegant makers from all countries and in Italian art glass. Manganese glows light green under blacklight.

This interesting little bowl is most-likely from 1950’s Italy and the modernist glass art movement.

Measures 4″ round and 1.75″ tall. Glass weighs 1.25 lbs, which is very heavy for a small bowl.

Model Flint Glass Co. Planet EAPG Large Jug Cruet

Big flint glass vinegar jug with original stopper made 1899. In beautiful, excellent condition. Some light residue in bottom of interior. No chips or cracks. Blown into 4-part mold with swirled, rough pontil mark. Thick glass. Zippered sides, heat finished rims and handle. Original matching stopper. Lots of lines and bubbles trapped in glass. This old glass glows light yellow under blacklight.

Made in 1899 by the Model Flint Glass Co, an early American glass maker. Big jug measures 8″ tall, 4-sided; each panel is 3.25″ wide. Weighs 2.75 lbs.

Mod Morgantown Blue Vintage Crystal Federal Patio Light Set

Genuine lead crystal from the early 1960’s Morgantown Decor Line. Big beautiful relics of authentic retro modern decor made in the late 1950’s to the early 1960’s by Morgantown Glass. Morgantown called this the “Federal Patio Light”, part no. 9913. In excellent condition. Both have light bottom wear (consistent with heavy glass over 50 years old). This set does not have the original labels. The vase in the image was previously sold. The label is shown for identification purposes. The original labels would have read: Old Morgantown, Genuine Lead Crystal, Handmade in U.S.A

Large, table sized “patio light”, measures 8.5″ tall, with a 4.5″ wide mouth. Weigh 1.2 lbs EACH. Offered as a set of two. Base is weighted with thick glass for stability. Pleasing light blue color was called “Peacock Blue”. .. Blown by hand from mold with pontil mark on seat, no seams. Crystal is top quality. The color darkens with the thickness of the glass, looks awesome.

Can use big column or taper candles of any height with a base of 3.5″ wide or smaller. Remember to remove all metal that may be attached to a modern candle before burning it in vintage glass. Also great as a flower vase.

Mid-Century Swedish Modern Glass Mushroom Canister Set

Fabulous set of 3 large vintage glass mushroom canisters. So very retro! All in excellent conditon with light bottom wear. Hand blown amber glass mushroom caps on mold blown textured colorless glass stems. Could be Tapio Wirkkala, Finland, Iittala – possibly from the Aslak line in the 1970s’. Could be American – Morgantown or Viking or…? Could be Italian glass. Maker unknown at this time. Beatifully made, great quality glass.

Mushroom tops are heavy blown glass. Large canister measures 10.75″ tall, 7″ at widest, weighs 3 lbs. Medium canister is 7.5″ tall, 5″ at widest, weighs 1.5 lbs. Short, fat canister is 6″ tall, 7″ at widest, weighs 1.25 lbs. These are full-sized counter canisters. Excellent gift for the mushroom lover in your life!

Mid-Century Modern Space Age Cocktail Glass Set

Set of four hand-blown steel blue crystal cocktail stems. Hand-made in three parts of thick blown crystal. The foot is applied to the stem which is applied to the bowl.

Wacky modernist design is both fascinating and useful. The hollow ‘tire’ ring at the base of the bowl gives a secure, comfortable grip and provides a well for those fancy layered cocktails or shaved ice. Fun to use… and sure to help start the conversation!

Quality vintage crystal. Maker is unknown. Could be Scandinavian, the Nordic’s love odd shapes combined with quality and utility. Could also be an American, high end mid-century maker like Tiffin or Duncan. Measure 4.75″ tall. All four in perfect condition.

Mid-Century Modern Leather Trimmed Bar Tumbler Set of 10

Pristine leather trimmed double rocks bar glass set. Retro vintage tumblers with leather laminated grip made in the 1970’s or earlier. SET of 10. Nine of the ten tumblers are in like-new condition. The 10th has a slightly faded leather grip. All have some bottom-wear, ranging from light to heavy, indicative of their age.

Rare to find, especially as a set. The leather decor, used extensively in the 1960’s and 1970’s, normally does not survive the years due to cleaning (harsh chemicals, dishwashers, water soaking, etc.). These tumblers are not dishwasher safe. There is no water damage.

Well-made. Thick mold blown glass of smoke black. The grip is made of a thick shiny black composite material. A strip of leather is laminated over the shiny black band and secured with a metal “X” bracket. Heavy tumblers, great for bar, party and regular use. Each weigh 1/2 pound. Double old-fashioned sized at 4″ tall with a 3.25″ wide mouth.
