Mid-Century Italian Set of Cased Opaline Glass Vessels

Fabulous set of 1950’s Italian Blue Opaline cased glass covered containers. Both In excellent condition. Set consists of (1) 12″ tall long stem covered vessel and (1) 6.5″ tall covered mushroom jar. Both are handblown and the circus tent pedstal has applied base and stem. Color on both pieces is identical. Inner casing is thin white, outer casing is deep teal blue – results in a beautiful light teal blue. The applied base/stem and the “knobs” of the lids on the circus tent pedestal are solid glass and show the true color of the dark teal blue on both pieces.

These remarkable items were made by a fine Italian or Scandinavian maker, name unknown at this time, research continues. The “Mushroom Jar” is very special. Extremely hard to find and…oh so…retro.

Mid-Century Italian Opaline Vase with Label

Fabulous Mid-Century Italian Blue Opaline Vase. Label reads “Opaline Italia” (the E has been torn off). In Excellent Condition. Circa 1950’s. Handblown with applied base and spiral stem. Inner casing is white, outer casing is blue – results in a beautiful baby blue color. Measures 12.5″ tall on a 5″ base.

Large Vintage Italian Goblet w Label

Stunning hand blown extreme sized goblet. Vintage 1950’s Italian art glass with label. The color on the label has worn off. Impression remains of a man standing and blowing glass with a rod and the words “Made in Italy” remains on the silver foil.

Mesmerising diamond pillow optic effects. Beautiful grass green color. Inverted foot and solid glass stem were formed separately and then applied by hand. Tall goblets and tazzas like this were extremely popular in the late 1950’s. This is an exceptionally well-made piece by a fine Italian artist. Stands 10″ tall, 6″ at widest with a 18.5″ widest girth. Opening is 4″ wide. In Excellent condition.

Looks gorgeous with fern like plants (always remove the plant before watering, don’t allow water or dirt to drain into old glass, never plant directly into glass)

Large Peach Luster Hurricane Oil Lamp

Depression Glass oil / kerosene lamp in excellent condition. Peach luster honeycomb decor in “as new” condition, very unusual. The finish is still bright and glowing, no scratches. Stylized bell shaped honeycomb base. The interior had dried oil which came out after considerable cleaning. It will need a new wick. Hardware has heavy patina. All parts are clean and working. Hardware marked “Eagle”.

Probably made by Jeannette Glass- 60 – 70 years ago. Definitely vintage, on the cusp of antique. (Glass is considered antique at 70 years of age). The peach luster decor is in amazing condition. Items with this luminescent decor normally show heavy wear after all these years. Large lamp measures 13.5″ tall, 7″ at widest with a 20″ girth.

Retro Modern Hand Blown Beverage Pitcher

Beautiful full-size retro modern blown glass beverage pitcher. Smokey moss green full-size optic glass pitcher, possibly by Pilgrim Art Glass (America) or of Italian descent. Circa 1960s Beautiful retro modernist design. Hand-blown from mold in thick glass with diamond optics and free-blown applied handle. Pontil is polished. Base shows optic mold imprint.

The pitcher holds 64+ ounces. It measures 9.75″ tall, 7″ wide base. Big, beautiful, sturdy and useful as a beverage pitcher. Also makes a stunning large flower vase.

Retro Cased Italian Neapolitan Vase

Lovely baby blue cased glass floor vase by Toscany Italy. This tall retro floor vase was made in the 1950s – 1960s. A white glass layer is centered between a thin and thick layer of blue glass, making exterior color a beautiful baby blue. The label is old and brittle. It is peeling at the edges, but it is intact.

It stands 16.5″ tall on a 5″ base and is made of 3 cased glass layers, hence the name “Neapolitan”.

Vintage Hand Blown Crackle Glass Jug

Clear crackle jug with applied blue handle, Blenko Art Glass pattern #417 or possibly made by Pilgrim Art Glass who also made this exact form. Circa 1950’s – 1960s. Hand blown – soft pontil.  Pictured is a 1956 Blenko ad featuring this form.

This unique jug measures 8″ tall and weighs 2.5 lbs.

Gorgeous Deep Red Imperial Carnival Glass Candlestick

A pair of candlestick holders made in Art Nouveau style. There is an Imperial glass IG logo on bottom of bases (used between 1951 – 1972). Imperial calls this color “Sunset Ruby”. The beautiful dark red glass with hints of yellow, gold, blue, green has carnival iridescence. The pattern is called “Acanthus Leaf”. Circa late 1960s with light bottom wear.

These stunning candlestick holders are 3″ tall on a 4″ wide base.

Exotic Precious Liquid Serving Bottle

This beautiful aurene style bottle was used to serve rose water, a standard condiment on Middle-Eastern tables. It is often referred to as a “Persian Flask”. Hand blown and hand decorated with pontil mark on base. It is made of cobalt blue glass and decorated with “fumed” iridescent minerals on the exterior. The finish shimmers in the light and undulates with metalic magenta, blue, green and gold. The applied ribbon trail is decorative and useful. The raised and twirled ropes allow for a better hand grip on the neck of the bottle. The server pours the liquid out of this large bottle by holding the bulbous base in the palm of one hand and the neck in the grip of the other hand. The tip at the top of the bottle directs the liquid, and inside the bottle is a string of applied glass coming from the base which also directs the liquid and has the effect of slowing the flow.

Rose water bottles date back to ancient days. This is not an ancient bottle, but it is probably from the early 1900s. The fumed luster decor was popular and in regular use during the “Art Nouveau” era. May have been made by American maker “Imperial Glass”. This bottle is in very good condition. There are no chips, cracks, no water damage. There is some wear to the finish on an area of the base where it must have rubbed against other tableware. It is much more noticeable in the image than it is under normal lighting. On the neck, where the hand would grip, the finish is smoother, but not worn. It has been used, and cared for.

This substantial sized bottle stands 14.5″ tall and weighs 2.5 lbs.

Scarce Elegant Depression Blown Glass Sauce Bowl

Rarely seen gravy boat by Duncan Miller in the Dover pattern. Made in the 1930s to 1940s. Beautiful glass made during the Depression years for elegant tables.  Big foot insures stability at the table. Large handle for ease of pouring. Always use two hands to serve from this big gravy boat because it is heavy and the handle is glass. Put one hand on the handle the other hand cradling the vessel just below the spout. The handle was blown and stretched and applied to the vessel. It is strong, with no stress cracks. The vessel was hand-blown from mold and hand-tooled at the spout. The foot is supported by a large wafer (Dover). In excellent condition with a medium band of bottom-wear. The glass is cased. The red is encased in a layer of clear glass.

Large – weighs 2.5 lbs. Measures 8.25″ long from handle to spout, 5.25″ tall to tip of handle, 4.5″ tall to tip of spout.

Hand Blown Pitcher with Stopper

Large quality hand blown glass beverage pitcher with matching stopper. Lovely and interesting. Deep, beautiful, vintage cobalt blue glass. Was found with a matching stopper. The weight, color, shape of the solid glass stopper matches the pitcher exactly. Beverage pitchers do not normally come with a decanter style stopper like this. It looks like a decanter stopper. It fits the pitcher perfectly, whether it’s neck down or up it seals the pitcher opening as if it were made for it. So, it was either made for the pitcher or it came from a companion decanter from the same maker. Maker unknown. Comes from a fine glassblower, very well done. Handblown, swirled pontil mark, applied clear handle. Could be Swedish, or an elegant American maker such as Duncan Glass or Tiffin. Estimated circa 1950s – 1970s.

Measures 6.75″ tall, 7″ at widest and weighs 3.25 lbs with stopper.

Large Mid-Century Hand Blown Glass Snifter Goblet

Lovely and large mid-century blown glass snifter goblet. Hand-blown in turquoise blue with diamond pillow optics. Hand-tooled ruffled rim. Stem was applied to bowl, foot applied to stem. Rounded ball pontil mark. In great condition with some light outer surface scratches. Circa 1950s, 1960s. Medium band of bottom-wear, expected. Made in Italy.

This lovely snifter looks great with plants or flowers, or could be used as high-steppin’ piano bar tip jar. Makes a visually stunning candleholder with the optics, but never use a candle with metal on base. Old glass cannot stand high temperatures, any metal will get too hot.

The large snifter goblet measures 9.75″ tall, 7″ at widest, and 19″ widest girth.

Large Italian Blown Cased Glass Vase

Large vintage retro mod orange-orange vase cased in white and colorless glass. Commands attention. Will brighten any room. Makes the large Lucite grape logs in image 2 below look small. Made in Italy, possibly Carlo Moretti, circa 1960 to 1970. Hand-blown. There are a couple of small trapped bubbles (invisible unless studied closely) inherent to hand-worked glass.

The beautiful vase stands 18½” tall and weighs 4½ lbs. Maker is unknown.

Pre-designer Presentation Urn Designed by Bill Blenko

This is a pre-designer vase, made when Bill Blenko oversaw all the Blenko glass designs. This lovely old vase has a special color, it’s a dark green with a tint of blue. Blenko calls the color “Pine”, or it may be “Peacock”. Shown in Blenko’s 1948 catalog as part #428 L. Shown under bright light in image below, to bring out the bottom wear. Very heavy, solid band of surface contact wear, expected on vintage/antique glass. Circa estimated: late 1930s to early 1940s. It has a soft blob pontil mark. The base is applied to the knop stem, the stem is applied to the bell shaped bowl. There are unintentional small air bubbles within the glass, common on Blenko glass. Color is uniform and free of irregularities.

Heavy, thick glass weighs 3 lbs. Measures just under 7.5″ tall, vase opening is 6 5/8″ wide. Widest girth is 22″.

Vintage Sommerso Glass Peach

Stunning three pound ruby and uranium glass art peach figurine. This absolutely beautiful vintage sommerso glass peach is fascinating in every way. It’s larger than we expect from the already large mid-20th Century mod fruit figurines. Three full pounds of art glass, a pound more than the standard large size.

The coloring graduates from red to greenish yellow. The green/yellow glass contains Uranium (element used during war-times and periods when lead was scarce) and illuminates bright green under blacklight. This color combination was called ‘Rubina Verde’ (different than amberina) and is usually found on glass from the late 1800s to early 1900s.

Hand-blown quality glass. The peach is blown hollow with heavy, very thick walls. The ample emerald green stem and leaf were tooled separately and applied to the peach. Decorated internally with diamond quilted controlled bubbles surrounded by veils of gold aventurine. Stunning. The dark irregular areas in images are a reflection only, the Rubena Verde colors are uniform and without dark splotches. No inclusions found. The glass is quality and in excellent condition. The figurine has medium-weight bottom wear on the flat polished seat which is expected.

No signature. It’s hard to believe a masterpiece like this is not signed. Maker unknown. Probably 1950s Italian/Venetian/Murano, but has a small chance it could be American made (Boston area). The internal bubbles and gold veils point directly to Italy, but the unusual coloring was used in 19th and early 20th century high-end American, British and French glass too. Most likely made in 1950s Italy, but may have been made earlier. Research continues.

Weighs 3lbs. Measures 4½” tall, 5½” at widest with a circumference of 15½”. Shown next to a medium-size lemon to help show it’s large size.

Large Swedish Blown Glass Fruit Figurine

This big fat berry or gourd is signed ‘Kosta Boda, (unknown center scribble), G (Gunnel) Sahlin, 98911’. It is from a limited signed edition. Sahlin came to work with Kosta Boda, Sweden in 1986 and is still a foremost designer for the long-lived upscale Scandinavian glass house. It’s in excellent condition. The pontil mark was bunched and closed into a ‘nub’ that looks more like the end of a berry. The maker’s signature is etched on the base of the nub. The nub balances the figurine. It always sits at a slant.

Mottled teal green glass was blown into an optic mold (vertical optic panel decor) and hand finished with an applied yellow and orange speckled stem. It is blown hollow. The mottling is raised a bit giving the fruit’s skin a slight texture. It’s Big. The decor style (mottled bright coloring) is called ‘Frutteria’ (Italian for ‘fruit stand’). Sahlin’s fruit from this range is also referred to as simply ‘Big’ in reference books. The Frutteria range was produced between 1989 and 1993. No longer in production.

It measures about 5½” tall with a girth of 13½”. It weighs just over 1 lb.

Vintage Retro Modern Kastehelmi Bowl & Liner

Vintage retro modern glassware from Finland, 1960s. The Kastehelmi pattern, also called Dew Drop, was designed by Oiva Toikka for Nuutajarvi Nostjo in 1964. Nuutajarvi was the oldest glass factory in Finland, began production in 1793. In 1950, the Arabia (Kaj Franck) glass factory teamed with Nuutajarvi. Toikka was appointed designer in 1963. In 1990, Iittala absorbed Nuutajarvi.

This pattern was produced in bright, deep colors. This is pressed, quality glass. There are no seams. The pattern produces a wonderful glitter in the light, hard to capture on the images. Very hard to find.

Heavy quality glass, set weighs 1.2 lbs. The plate measures 7″ wide and .75″ tall. The bowl is 4″ wide and 2″ tall.

Blue Magic Large Clam Shell Bowl by Mats Jonasson

Beautiful Blue Magic bowl by famed Swedish glass artist Mats Jonasson. Jonasson was born in 1945 Sweden. In 1981 he purchased shares of the newly independent Malaras Glassworks which is still in business today. This big beautiful bowl is in perfect condition and impressed with ‘Mats Jonasson, Sweden’ on the seat. The ‘Blue Magic’ line is contemporary, but discontinued. Circa 2010.

Deep bowl with multitudes of uses. A beautiful piece for ocean / beach decor. The regal blue glass is smooth on the inside, textured on the out side and stylized with a white frosted clam shell rim.

The bowl measures 9½” round and 2.75″ tall.
