Orange Slag Retro Modern Vase with the Fayette Label

This eccentric retro modern vase commands attention. It’s tall, measures 17.26″ high. And it’s orange, very orange.

Can accommodate an armful of flowers or grasses. The orange slag color bleeds into a caramel yellow on the rim and base. Statement making orange color, very popular in the late 1960’s to early 1970’s.

The label on the retro modern vase reads: Handmade Fayette Glass. We believe ‘Fayette’ may have been the name of this vase’s decor line. The exact form has also been documented with a ‘Smith Glass’ label.  This form is often attributed to Viking Art Glass, but we’ve yet to see a cataloged or labeled swung vase form like this from Viking.

It was formed by blowing molten glass into a mold, removing it and then ‘swinging’ the glass around to achieve the long waist of the vase.  The stylized ruffle rim was finished by hand.  The color fading is accomplished during reheating. The color is also described as slag, meaning it is opaque with melding colors.

In perfect condition.  Circa 1970. Heavy, quality vintage glass, orange slag retro modern vase makes a grand home decor focal point.

Mouth Blown Efeso Art Glass Vintage Vase

This beautiful Efeso art glass vase was mouth blown, circa 1960’s to 1970’s. Efeso is an Italian technique providing the irregular bubbles trapped within the glass. The added pigments provide an interesting archaic effect.

Although we refer to the technique as Efeso art glass, this vase is not necessarily Italian made. The Scandinavians of the Mid-20th Century produced decor like this and refer to it as ‘bubbly’. The vase is unsigned.

The outstanding mid-century modern free-form gives this Efeso art glass vase a sense antiquity. It stands 8.25″ tall, 2″ thick, and 5″ at widest. The base pontil scar is polished with a polished seat rim encircling it. The seat rim shows bottom-wear, indicating age and expected. Hand made by a master of the craft in quality glass. In beautiful like new condition.

Beautiful opaque black Depression Glass vase, circa 1940’s.

Black Depression glass vase stands 8″ tall with hand-pulled ruffles to effortlessly arrange handfuls of flowers or grasses.

Made in the 1940’s by blowing molten glass into a 3-part mold, and stretching and finishing the rim by hand. The pattern is generally called Honey Comb. Probably by Central Glass, L.E. Smith or Fenton Art Glass, all U.S. makers.

In wonderful condition, like new. Light ring of bottom-wear on base from surface contact over the last 75 years. Solid black color fits in well with most color schemes. Attention grabbing floral vase perfect for garden flowers.

Retro carved art glass bottle vase in dark ruby red fading to burnt yellow.

Hand carved art glass bottle with cut-back decor. The carved pattern is inconsistent. Inconsistent patterns are the result of the human hand. Machines are never inconsistent. No sign of mold marks.  The carved art glass bottle rim was shaved off and hand polished flat.  The pontil scar was removed when the rim was shaved and polished.  The base was pressed flat.

The glass color, dark red fading to yellow, is often called ‘Amberina’. When the glass was carved, the colors beneath the surface lightened. Nice effect.  The Italians call the method of carving art glass ‘Battuto’.

We have not identified this vase, but believe it is of Italian origin, circa 1970’s.  The carved art glass bottle vase has medium bottom-wear on the base from over 40 years of surface contact.  Measures 11.25 inches tall on a 3.5 inch wide base. In excellent, sparkling clean condition.

1930’s Royal Ruby Depression Glass Full Size Pitcher with Ice Lip

Early Anchor Hocking Royal Ruby Depression glass was made with thick, very dark red glass.  After the 1950’s, the Royal Ruby color was more translucent, and machine made with thin-walled glass.  This hefty 1930’s pitcher weighs 3.10 lbs. The color is very dark, could be described as ‘blood red’, but is in Anchor Hocking’s early Royal Ruby color.

Very sturdy, useful and beautiful.  Perfect for the holiday table, kitchen counter or bar. Also makes a lovely vase.

Full size Royal Ruby Depression glass pitcher measures 8.5″ tall, 9″ wide from handle to spout. Holds 80 ounces. In excellent vintage condition.  Sparkling clean.  Solid ring of bottom-wear on base caused by surface contact. Bottom-wear is expected on table glass of such weight and age.

Made of heavy, quality pressed glass in the honeycomb pattern, circa 1930’s.

Tall Blown Optic Art Glass Rubina Verde Hand-Blown Pitcher

Exceptionally beautiful hand-blown full-size pitcher in vertical optic dual colored glass with stylized applied handle. Ready for beverage service or a large bunch of flowers.

This color combination of ruby fading to very light green is often called ‘Rubena Verde”. The rim color is dark ruby red and the body color is light yellow/green, with just a hint of light green. Like the well-known ‘amberina’ color (orange fading to yellow), the color fading effect is accomplished by heat. Hand-blown from vertical optic mold. Handle was free-blown and applied.

One clue to age is the shape of the spout. Spouts that slant high and upward like this are associated with Victorian age glass. The coloring also helps date it. Circa estimated 1900 – 1930.

The unusual handle is an applied loop which is sturdy and fully functional. This is a tall pitcher and requires one hand on the base, and the other hand gripping the handle when pouring. Measures 10½” tall, weighs 3 lbs. Holds 50 ounces. In excellent condition with a light ring of bottom-wear .

Tall Blown Italian Optic Glass Bullet Vase

Tall, slender and sleek retro modern vase. Handblown in elegant, eye pleasing dark amber brown glass. Tall vase, stands 13.25″ tall. Vase opening is 2.5″ wide.

Fabulous retro bullet shape with vertical optic panels. The stem and foot are drawn from the original gather of glass. The stem and foot are not applied as normally seen. Large rounded pontil mark on the seat of the foot. The rim is folded and heat finished smooth.

Probably made in Italy during the 1940’s-1950’s. American makers, and other countries, made “Facon de Venice” (in the style of Venice) glass also during this time as Italian glass was widely popular around the world. This stunning example has the retro modern flair that is so popular again today. In excellent condition.

Swedish Uranium Cut Crystal Decanter Set 1930’s

Made from leadless crystal in war neutral, Depression era Sweden. Signed Eda 33 on each base. Made by the Eda Glasbruk company in 1933.

These decanters are authentic “vaseline glass” (a modern nick-name for Uranium glass) in a brownish yellow color. Lead was scarce due to World War and glassmakers replaced it with Uranium. These decanters are a fine solid crystal, but made with Uranium instead of lead. VERY rare to see this color of Uranium glass. The Uranium in the glass is not harmful to your health in everyday use. Owners of this glass should not grind or melt it.
Beautiful and important art glass made in the year of the Eda Glasbruk glasshouse demise. Financial troubles from the Great Depression, and Nazi influences in Sweden, forced it closure in 1933. After the war, Evard Stromberg and his wife Gerda re-organized as “Strombergshyttan” and worked with Kosta Glasbruk.

Both are entirely hand-made with cut panels and stoppers. Heavy crystal, weigh 3 lbs each. In excellent condition with normal base-wear. Pontil mark is polished to an inverted half moon. Sharp corners were beveled. Rims are heat finished.

One is slightly smaller than the other. The difference in size can be attributed to the hand-making process, but more likely it was done so the owner could easily see which was which. Since the 1930’s, Sweden was (and still is) way ahead of the rest of the world in modernism and functionalism. Swedish products are always designed with quality, innovation and usefulness in mind.

Large decanter measures 11″ tall with stopper on. Smaller measures 10.5″ tall. Both are 4.25″ wide and 3″ deep, rectangular shape (easy grip). The stoppers are not interchangeable between bottles. Each is specifically sized for it’s own bottle.

Swedish Primitive Vintage Art Glass Native by Hellsten

1960’s Skrufs Glasbruk glass stylized head paperweight, signed & numbered. Signed by artist Lars Hellsten, who worked for Skrufs Glasbruk in Sweden from 1964 until the 1970’s (Hellsten Skruf HKO 3-g). He works for Orrefors now.

Made in the 1960’s. Solid crystal glass formed in a very detailed, deep mold. Skruf paperweights were blown in graphite molds. Flat, smooth back.
Best guess of what type of face this is would be a jungle native with a coconut hat and mask, or it could be a Neanderthal skull. Has that “artifact” look.

Big and heavy. Weighs 3 lbs. Measures 4.75″ tall, 4.5″ wide and 3″ deep. In excellent condition. Scarce item.

Swedish Primitive Art Glass Fish by Hellsten

Beautiful Skruf art glass fanciful fish. Signed by artist Lars Hellsten who worked for Skrufs Glasbruk in Sweden until 1972. (Hellsten Skruf etched on base). Also still retains original label. Hellsten works for Orrefors at present.

Made in the early late 1960’s to the early 1970’s. Solid crystal glass formed in a very detailed, deep mold. Skruf paperweights were blown in graphite molds. Flat, smooth back.

Weighs 1.5 lbs. Measures 6″ wide and 1.35″ deep. Sitting next to a large real apple in Image #4 to help show size. In excellent condition. Scarce item.

Artistic Mid-Century Swedish Modern Decanter

Awesome large sized decanter circa 1940s-1960s. Made by Erickson Glass Works, a Swedish glass maker who immigrated to the U.S. in the early 1900s. Hand blown with concave polished pontil. Original hollow, ground to fit stopper. The handle and the stopper tear-drop decor are pressed flat, but are not holes. No chips, cracks or imperfections. Bottle is clean but shows very, very faint signs of liquid evaporation. The traces are not visible unless held to the light and looked for, does not detract at all. Stopper is hollow and glass is clear with no condensation, in excellent condition.

Measures 13.5″ tall with stopper in place. The stopper is 4.5″ long. the bottle is 10.25″ tall. Beautiful, rare bottle from the very mod mid-century.

Hand Blown Ruby Red Glass Bowl

Beautiful hand made rolled lip ruby glass bowl. Circa 1950s – 1960s. Blown into mold base, free formed, hand stretched bowl. Strange and wonderfully shaped. Looks like Viking “Swedish Style” item but not listed in archived Viking catalogs. Viking made a limited rolled lipped line, the red color matches Viking color and the base style matches. Positive identification not made. Could be of Scandinavian descent from 1950s to early 1960s.

The bowl measures 10″ long, 3.75″ at tallest, 5.5″ at widest.

Scandavinavian Free Form Oblong Bowl

Beautiful, stylish free form vintage Scandinavian glass low bowl. Possibly by Bergdala, Sweden. Bergdala was a glasshouse founded in 1889, currently associated with Skruf and Svenska Glasbruk. It may have been made by Holmegaard (Demark) as we’ve seen this unsigned form attributed to them, but Holmegaard is usually signed. Circa 1960s. Swedish modern decor gained popularity in the late 1950s and is popular again today. The Swedish glass artists are best known for their nature based design with flowing curves.

This lovely low bowl is great for table decorative centerpiece or snack bowl. Beautiful as a candle holder too. The base is polished flat with a half-moon polished pontil mark. Medium-weight bottom wear on base from years of surface contact. The glass has a couple of trapped air bubbles commonly found in hand-made glass of the era.

The oblong shaped bowl is 10½” long, 4″ at tallest point, and 7″ at widest. It weighs 2 lbs.

Rare Ruby Basket by Viking Art Glass

Lovely hand formed ruby red basket. Viking Art Glass pattern #1163. Circa mid 1950’s to 1961- Viking discontinued this form in 1961. Blown into base mold, then hand formed . There are no seams. This basket is a rare item due to the low survival rate of the basket handles.

Swedish Modern Bo Borgstrom Blown Art Glass Martini Set

Vintage Swedish Modern design cocktail beverage set from the 1960’s. Made by Aseda (Sweden) in the 1960’s. Designed by Bo Borgstrom, a very popular glass artist who worked for Aseda during the 1960’s.

Set includes (1) 10.5″ tall pitcher (1) 13″ flat glass stirrer & (5) 3″ tumblers (image shows only four – there are actually five glasses included)
The green color is stunning. We’ve placed it next to a “forest green” item in image #5 to help you see the true color. It’s a bright moss green that darkens with the thickness of the glass.

Nice quality colored crystal glass. Hand-blown fine from mold. Note the handle-less pitcher and the Swedish Modern styling. Beautiful and fun to use.
