Danish Modern Glass and Brushed Metal Mug Set
Set of 4 brushed steel banded hot beverage mugs. Modernist glass in the style of Italian designer Joe Columbo (1930 – 1971). This mug at first glance looks much like a current Rosendahl Copenhagen pattern called Grand Cru, designed by Danish designer Erik Bagger.
As you can see it has a rounded handle and a high sheen metal band. Columbo’s glassware designs of the 1950’s often incorporated squared handles and steel, and brushed steel was a favorite. A nuclear future was on the world’s collective mind, and space-age styled products were the rage. Joe Columbo was a much admired designer of the period.
We believe these are vintage modernist Scandinavian glass beverage mugs in Joe Columbo style, dating to the 1950’s.
Well-made, thick pressed glass with real brushed steel bands. The bands are removable for cleaning. Unmarked. Modernist styling dates to the 1950’s -1960’s. Reproduced, with changes in the details, today by stylish Scandinavian glass houses today.
All in excellent condition. Tall mugs measure 4.5″ tall and weigh 3/4 lb each. Perfect for cocoa, tea and coffee drinks.
