VERY Large crystal ball vase by Orrefors, Sweden.
Rare and beautiful crystal ball vase from the late 1930’s signed ‘Of HZ48’. Designed by famous glass artist Edward Hald (1917-1978).
Thick blown light blue crystal ball vase with horizontal optic panels. The exterior of the vase is smooth, and on the interior the panels are slightly raised. Stunning optical illusion of light refraction. The blue darkens and lightens with position and lighting angle. Just beautiful.
Huge ball vase, twice the size of a bowling ball, weighs 7 lbs. In very good condition. A couple of slight side dings that can only be seen when studied closely, so small they cannot be felt or imaged. Glass is clean and brilliant. Heavy bottom-wear indicative of heavy glass rubbing against a surface for 80+ years. You can see the bottom-wear in image 2 above the signature.
Measures 11″ at widest with a widest girth of 20″. Stands 9″ tall with a 5 inch soft rim opening. Weighs 7 lbs. It’s larger than it appears. [color-box]More About Scandinavian Glass[/color-box]
