Tall 1960’s Retro Mod Tangerine Glass Canister from Gumps
Tall, funky handblown mid-century modern canister. Imported and stocked at Gumps in San Franciso during the late 1960’s to early 1970’s back in the days of Peace and Love (late 1960’s).
Made tall for spaghetti or layered items. Stands 14″ tall on a 4″ wide base. Lid and inner neck are ground to fit creating an airtight fit. The amberina, or ‘tangerine’ as it was called during the hippie era, color starts red at the top and diminishes to orange at the base. The color was achieved by heating techniques. It was hand-blown from a mold, no seams. Base is slightly inverted. Very light bottom-wear. In excellent condition. Medium weight, sturdy glass. Weighs 1.5 lbs.
This beautiful canister from our ultra-mod past would be a ‘standout’ in any kitchen. The unique vintage color is perfect for the retro mod style, or any modern style. Also makes a decorative bar area canister. This canister does not have a Gumps label. A sample of the original sticker is in images.
