Oversize Cased Glass Goblet with Cushion Knop Stem
Modernist Italian glass from the mid-20th century. Hand-made, mouth blown glass by Italian glass artists imported to the U.S.A. by KB Imports in New York during the 1960’s – 1970’s.
Features a 3-part blown hollow cushion knop stem. The thick base supports cushion stem blown in 3-parts and then applied to each other. The center portion of the stem is a hollow. This cushion knob stem style dates back to the 1600’s, perhaps earlier. During the mid-20th century, a revival of antiquity styles flourished.
The large bowl is in butterscotch cased glass. Inner layer is opaque white, outer layer is amber. The layers blend into a butterscotch / ochre color. Pontil mark on seat of base is twisted and flattened.
In excellent condition with mild bottom-wear. Large, oversized goblet stands 9″ tall and 6″ at widest. Weighs 2 lbs. Widest girth of bowl is 17″. Cased glass bowl is cut and polished at rim.
