Exceptional Panel Optic Glass Extreme Balloon Vase
Beautiful Italian glass balloon goblet in optic olive hand-blown glass. Imported Italian (Murano and Venetian) glass was extremely popular among the space-age crowd of the 1950’s to early 1960’s. Huge blown glass goblets, hand-made with bright colors and optic effects reflect the happy, forward-looking mood of the 1950’s. These make stunning decor focal points. Found in many different sizes and colors and when grouped together are bold and fun. The optics glitter when light shines through. Three to six inch container plants like ferns, pointsettias, ivy, etc. can be displayed by resting the existing pot on the rim. (Never plant directly in the glass, use the container the plant came in). Don’t water the plant while inside the goblet, always remove it before watering.) These stylized goblets also make fascinating candleholders. It is very important to remove any metal from modern candles (wick holders, etc.) before burning in vintage glass. Looks great on the grand piano. Multitude of uses.
This great big green panel optic goblet is 14.5″ tall, a balloon girth of 18″ with a 3.5″ wide opening and a 5″ wide base. A 3.5″ plant will rest on the rim. In excellent original condition. Hand-blown with ruffled rims, applied stem and applied inverted base with a half ball knop finished pontil. The goblet was blown from a panel optic mold providing illusion and texture to the glass. Useful, beautiful, fun art glass from 1950’s Italy.
