Easter Toleware Tray Hand Painted with Victorian Hen on Eggs
This beautiful Easter Toleware Tray was painted by hand with a hen in a nanny hat sitting on a batch of decorated eggs. The tolework art is exceptional. The colors are bright and cheery. Has a 3-D effect with the eggs popping out. Lovely details. We are surprised the artist didn’t sign this special piece of art.
Condition looks perfect. Up close you can see miniscule scratches with the black stained background showing through. So minimal it looks like part of the design. On the base of the tray, a few spots of white paint and light surface wear. No surface wear on the top of the tray.
Measures 12½” square. The black stained wood is medium-weight hard wood, originally light in color. Type of wood is unknown.
