Tall Diamond Quilted Glass Vase with Alabaster Foot
Elegant, eye-catching diamond quilted glass vase with applied two-part alabaster glass foot. Vase measures 11″ tall. Big, beautiful vase can hold a large bunch of flowers.
Made by blowing two layers of glass into a diamond pattern mold. The creamy white glass (called alabaster) used on the stem and foot was hand-made in two parts and applied to the vase. The inner layer is a very dark salmon color. The 4″ wide vase opening was ruffled with blow-torch and hand tool.
Probably created in Italy for export to the U.S., but it could be early 20th Century American made. The diamond quilted cut velvet decor was popular in the Victorian era. The decor style regained popularity in the 1940’s to 1950’s.
The applied two part stem and foot point to a quality maker. Victorian era glass often sported this style of foot. During the Mid-20th Century, major Italian glass houses exported vases like this to decor distributors in the U.S. Estimated circa: 1920 to 1960.
This vase is in excellent condition.
