Big Vintage Glass Canister Jar in Emerald Green
Beautiful dark green coloring is exceptional for keeping the light off your stored goods…and looking stunning in your kitchen.
This glass was hand-blown into a mold. A couple of trapped air-bubbles attest to it’s hand-made origin. One can be seen in the image above. Disregard the light green shade in the images, it is from reflections. The jar’s color is uniform emerald green, darkening only in the thicker areas at the neck and base.
The inner neck has a hand-ground rim which was meant to receive a glass lid. The aged cork was a replacment made sometime in the past. The cork fits well, airtight, and looks good. Finding a color-matched replacement glass lid in the right size is next to impossible.
Measures 9″ tall on a 6″ wide base with a girth of 16″. Weighs 2 lbs. Holds 1 gallon. In excellent condition, sparkling clean.
Heavy solid band of bottom-wear on base. Bottom-wear (on the seat) is caused by surface contact and accumulates over the years. Usually, heavy bottom-wear correlates with old age. This jar could be a mid-20th Century reproduction of machine-age glass, or it could be an original turn of the 18th century jar. There are no makers marks.
