Art Nouveau Decanter with Austrian Crystal Overlay Cut Glass
Elegant, well-made intaglio engraved art glass decanter. Stunning cased and cut bell shaped decanter with hand-cut Art Nouveau decor by Famosa LPW in Vienna, Austria. Circa 1920s – 1930s. We believe the LPW stands for Local Public Works. This decanter does not bear the original sticker. The exact form, different colors, has been documented with the Famosa label.
The glass was hand-blown and hand-cut. The double overlay results in three layers of glass. The inner layer is milk white, the center layer is light amber/yellow, and the outer layer is dark amber/chestnut. The artist cut through the outer layer to the center layer to produce decor. The white and amber layers produce the “caramel” color.
This full-size decanter measures 13.75″ tall.
