Antique Glass Candle Holder with Cushion Knop Stem

Large and heavy antique glass candle holder weighs 2 lbs. Hand-made, hand-formed green glass. The stem is made in two parts, each with hollow cushion knops, and applied to the foot and bowl. The foot is large, wider than the bowl, indicative of antique glass forms. Excellent for stability and for catching the wax.

Solid glass bowl with over-sized candle insert (sized for old hand-dipped candles). The glass was hand-formed (no seams) with a sheared and semi-polished pontil. In excellent condition with no chips or cracks.

The medium weight bottom-wear ring is solid, forms a complete circle, and this is a positive indication of age. Heavily seeded glass (numerous tiny unintentional or intentional air bubbles trapped within the glass). Looks like German forest glass color.

In image 5, this antique glass candle holder is shown with two mid-20th century Italian glass objects with cushion knop stems. The items in the forefront were imported to the USA by ‘Koscherak Brothers’ on New York City (label ‘KB’ Imports, Italy) in the 1960’s – 1970’s. Mid-century glass craftsmen often copied age-old techniques. This candlestick holder was made much earlier than the mid-century modern examples, probably German or Italian from the 19th or early 20th century.
