Beautiful ghosted V Nason Murano art glass angel fish with original sticker.
V Nason Murano art glass was the company of Vincenzo Nason, who previously worked with the great Venini glass house. V Nason & Co. was established in 1967 and closed its doors in 2001. The label on the base of this stunning scavo fish was used in the late 1980’s.
‘Scavo’ in Italian means ‘Excavation’. The scavo finish was developed to imitate ancient Roman glass discovered during excavations. The ancient glass, buried for hundreds to thousands of years, had a rough matte finish in whites and greys, sometimes with splashes of other colors. This exquisite angel fish is whitish/grey with a ghosty aura.
Scavo Glass Decor Defined by the Corning Museum of Glass; (Italian, “excavation”) A technique involving the application, to the surface of an object, of substances that, when heated to about 1470°F (800°C), fuse and create an effect similar to weathering, thereby imitating glass from an archeological excavation.
In excellent condition. Meashures 4.25″ tall,5″ long and 1.5″ thick. Weighs just
under 1 lb. It is rare to find the Nason angel fish in Scavo, and it is rare to find it without broken fins. This beauty is in like-new condition. Circa 1980’s.
