Blenko Art Glass original part #49 pinched glass decanter, designed in the late 1940s. This is known as a "pre-designer" item when William Blenko (founder) was head designer. Production continued to the early 1970s. (click here to read more about Blenko)
Handblown. Pontil mark on base. Weighs 2.2 lbs. The body has unintentional bubbles trapped within the glass, commonly found on Blenko glass objects. It is in excellent condition with a full ring of bottom-wear. The glass is brilliant. The color is amazing, you just don't see rich jewel-like amethyst like this anymore. It has a tinge of ruby. Hard to image the fabulous color.
Stopper is ground to fit. Stopper has stylized intentional bubble. Stopper is original to bottle. The color darkens and lightens with the thickness of the glass at the neck and the base. The white and black spots in the images are from lighting reflections.
Decanter has three 5" wide pinched sides. Looks awesome and provides a good "grip". Stands 10" tall with stopper. Full-size decanter. The decanters, as with most Blenko products, vary slightly in size due to the hand-made process.
Blenko made these distinctive decanters in a wide range of wonderful colors. Shown in image 6 is an ruby red decanter (available separately). In image 9, sea green, colorless, and turquoise are shown (not available), Image 8 is an early Blenko catalog page showing the #49 pinch decanter.
