Antique Hand Forged Copper Candlestick Holders

Very old candlestick holders.  Hand-made of solid copper.  The candle tube is 1 1/4" wide, made to accomodate thick hand-dipped candles.  Modern taper candles measure approx. 3/4" wide.  Thick candles are still available today, we used modern candles in image 5 below. In beautiful naturally aged condition.  The deep rich patina is mixed with touches of soot.  The seats (image 4) show that they have been used plenty, and in circumstances where soot from the surface they sat on could imbed in the patina.  They once lived in a very rustic atmosphere. Their age ranges from Medieval times up to the 1800s.  The last period of reproduction of this sort was the Arts & Crafts era (1880 to 1920) when hand-made objects, often in the old styles, were the height of popularity among the fashionable.  Made for function rather than beauty, but beautiful still.  The wax plate is large, will catch all the drippings.  Bent up edges keep the debree on the plate while in transit.  A rope of copper reinforces the candle tube.  All the edges were softened with a hand-tool.  The base measures 6½" wide, stands just over 3" tall. There is no damage, no corrosion.
